OSLO - The Norwegian Government Administration Services agency (GAS) and EDB have entered into an agreement for the development and operation of Budmod, which is the model used to simplify the preparation of the Norwegian national budget. The agreement runs for one year, with an option to extend through to 2014. "The national budget is perhaps the most important document produced anywhere in the public sector. We welcome the confidence that GAS has shown in EDB by selecting us to work on the development of this budgeting model", comments Lars-Erik Johannesen, Executive Vice President Public Sector and Industry at EDB. "GAS is very pleased to enter to this agreement. EDB won the contract through competitive bidding in the open market. This agreement ensures that we have the continuity and expertise necessary for the production of the national budget, which is one of the most important tasks that GAS carries out", explains Bjørn Vidar Jensen, Head of Section at GAS. Model used to prepare the national budget since the start of the millennium Budmod was developed in 1999, and since then it has been the main tool used by the ministries in their work on the national budget. EDB has been responsible for support and development of the solution ever since it first went into production. The solution handles the production and maintenance of budget data. It provides standard formats for aggregating and presenting data for the national budget, together with reporting functionality and interfaces for transferring budget data between the Ministry of Finance and the other ministries. In addition to using the solution for their work on the national budget, the ministries can also use the solution throughout the budgeting year. "The public sector needs strong and capable suppliers to support their work on solutions that are critical for society, and I am delighted by the confidence that GAS has shown in EDB by its decision to continue our collaboration", says Lars-Erik Johannesen.
