Friday, 14 August 2015

WASHINGTON — The American Bankers Association Foundation is calling for banker volunteers for its annual Get Smart About Credit program, an initiative designed to teach teens how to use credit effectively.

Bankers will celebrate Get Smart About Credit Day on Oct. 15 and throughout the month by visiting classrooms across the country to present lessons on important financial obstacles facing young adults, including paying for college, building good credit habits, managing money and protecting their identity.

“As bankers, I believe we have a responsibility to help educate today’s teens on the importance of credit and how to use it wisely,” said Frank Keating, ABA president and CEO. “This program provides bankers with the resources they need to get students thinking critically about their financial future.”

This year, Get Smart About Credit will be sponsored by Citi, Wells Fargo and U.S. Bank.
The ABA Foundation is offering a free informational webinar on Aug. 13 at 3 p.m. ET for interested bankers and will provide registrants with real-time customer support and program materials.

Bankers interested in participating in the program can sign up online at Registered banks will be featured on a list of participating banks on the ABA Foundation’s website and in press materials. Since 1997, the ABA Foundation’s financial education programs have reached over 7.6 million young people with the help of more than 225,000 banker volunteers.

The American Bankers Association is the voice of the nation’s $16 trillion banking industry, which is composed of small, regional and large banks that together employ more than 2 million people, safeguard $12 trillion in deposits and extend more than $8 trillion in loans.

Through its leadership, partnerships, and national programs, ABA’s Community Engagement Foundation (dba ABA Foundation), a 501(c)3, helps bankers provide financial education to individuals at every age, elevate issues around affordable housing and community development, and achieve corporate social responsibility objectives to improve the well-being of their customers and their communities.
