Cabot Financial Ireland Appoints a Head of Finance and Commercial Investment Director Print E-mail
Wednesday, 28 January 2015

28 January 2015 – Cabot Financial Ireland, a leading acquirer and manager of consumer debt, has appointed David Downing as its Head of Finance and promoted Orla Hughes from Chief Financial Officer to Commercial Investment Director.

Downing, who has over 16 years experience in financial services, will be responsible for the overall financials for the company and the day to day running of the financial team.

Hughes will be responsible for the optimisation of returns on all financial assets in the business both purchased and managed. In practical terms this will mean the establishment and running of a pricing and investment committee, portfolio analysis and recommendations for investment returns, debt purchase analysis and investment recommendations. She will continue to assist in the management of existing and new client relationships.

Sean Webb, CEO, Cabot Ireland, said: “We are delighted David Downing has joined us from Friends First Finance. His experience will be a huge benefit to our growing and already strong finance team. Orla Hughes has been with us for over ten years and has the right experience to embrace this new role and to help the company grow. ”

Downing joins Cabot Financial from Friends First Finance where he has worked in various roles for the past 12 years, most latterly as its head of finance. Before that he worked for KPMG as a senior auditor.  His qualifications include attaining a first class Degree in business studies in accounting, and a Masters in accounting.

Downing and Hughes will report directly to Sean Webb.

The roles have evolved as a result of the decision by Cabot Ireland to invest substantially in portfolio acquisitions last year and also to develop a dedicated unit for the provision of services to the banks within the secured mortgage area. Additionally, in October, the company purchased exclusive licences from Dublin-based XRS, a leading provider of credit management software services. Since then the company has established a new specialised division, Cabot Credit Union Services, to enhance its Credit Union offering and make it easier for Credit Unions to engage with members in arrears in an effective and compliant manner.
