New director joins BTG Financial Consulting Print E-mail
Thursday, 25 September 2014

Simon Watson has joined BTG Financial Consulting (BTG FC) as director and will be responsible for developing a debt advisory service aimed at solvent/performing property businesses which are seeking to refinance.

A trained Chartered Accountant, after qualification Simon worked in audit for a Big Four firm including time in London and San Jose.  He completed a full time MBA in 2003, specialising in strategy, and ran a property development business in Glasgow for several years before moving into banking, working for Bank of Scotland, Clydesdale Bank and National Australia Bank.

Simon worked in the distressed property space for six years, leading the forced exit teams in both Scotland and London for the Clydesdale Bank/National Australia Bank as well as consensual run out teams.  During this time he gained significant exposure to the property sector and, in particular, experience of the challenges clients face when presenting a proposition to existing and new lenders.

With a Scotland-wide remit, Simon and his team will provide specialist advice to property clients needing help with their funding strategy.

Ken Pattullo, managing partner, said: “With his strong track record in distressed property, Simon has the expertise we need to lead this specialist new debt advisory offering.  Not only will the team support clients as they consider their current position and look at what is available in the refinance market, it will also work with them to develop strategy, structure and funding need as well as transacting the refinance itself.
“Simon will add further strength and depth to the team in Scotland as we continue to support businesses facing tough funding challenges.”

Simon adds: “Presenting the right proposition to banks and ensuring that the business is in the best possible position to achieve the right refinance requires specialist advice.  Our aim is to work with clients to help them articulate and present their position in the best possible light to banks/funders in order to achieve a market leading, enhanced refinance offer.  We will also help with existing lender negotiations to bring resolution to difficult legacy relationship issues.”
