CSA Shares Insights at Annual Debt Collection Conference in Germany Print E-mail
Wednesday, 14 May 2014

Senior executives from the Credit Services Association (CSA) used an annual European Debt Collection Conference organised by the BDIU – the German Association of Debt Collection Companies - to share their insights into collections and enforcement in the UK, and specifically the impact of moving to a new regulator.

Credit Services Association President Leigh Berkley and Peter Wallwork, CSA Chief Executive and the newly elected Vice President of FENCA, spoke not only of the transition of regulatory power from the OFT to the Financial Conduct Authority (FCA), but also shared their concerns regarding new EU regulations on Data Protection.

The Chief Executive’s address prompted a lively panel debate involving Leigh Berkley, Piotr Badowski, President of PZW (Poland’s debt collection association) and Andreas Aumüller, the President of FENCA who compared the UK position to their own experiences, and praised the work of the CSA in its lobbying and Public Relations activities.

Leigh voiced the UK’s concerns about the proposed EU Directive on Data Protection at a Reception held at the British Embassy. He also articulated the ongoing lobbying efforts that the CSA has been leading to make sure the UK Government and other organisations such as the Information Commissioner’s Office (ICO) understand the potential shortcomings of the EU proposals.

“The CSA has always enjoyed strong links with the BDIU, FENCA and other associations within Europe, and the shared concerns regarding the European Data Protection Regulation is an important reminder of why it is necessary for us to collaborate,” Leigh said.

The three-day conference, which was held in Berlin attracted more than 500 participants. The event was also attended by political representatives from the German Parliament, Ministries and other related associations.

The CSA’s own conference held on 10 and 11 September is now open for bookings, with an early bird discount which ends shortly on 30 May 2014.
