The P&A Group of Companies, one of the largest independent advisory, insolvency and debt collection firms in the UK, has appointed Jason Sheehy as managing partner to head up its new Ireland office.

The firm is opening the Dublin office to strengthen its position in Ireland where it has been working for more than 10 years.  One of its particular areas of expertise is helping Irish SMEs to find alternative finance for business restructure and growth.   

Sheehy, a chartered accountant with 25 years experience in turnaround and recovery, said: “Family owned and mid tier businesses have been decimated because of the Irish economy, the collapse in the property market and banking crisis.  Many are struggling to recover because they can’t get access to finance – the situation is worse here than in the UK.  P&A has particular strengths in finding alternative funding, including invoice discounting – a re-financing option that traditionally hasn’t been considered in Ireland.

“P&A’s decision to set up an office in Dublin is also timely because of the changes to new personal insolvency legislation due in the autumn which will see Ireland get Individual Voluntary Arrangements (IVAs) similar to the UK.”

Jeremy Priestley, managing director of P&A, said: “It makes sense for us to have a strong presence in Ireland where we think the breadth of our work can help businesses. We are very strong in areas such as debt collection and refinancing and will work with Jason to help SMEs, in particular.   Jason brings a great understanding of the issues facing Irish businesses and is well networked with banks, accountants and lawyers.”
